Selling up, moving on, or something went wrong
The rare situations. Businesses change hands, cards go missing, and sometimes the person holding the cards is not the person who bought them. Here is what to do in each case.
Whatever happens, your cards keep redirecting. We will not switch off a card you paid for — not when a subscription ends, not when an account is abandoned, not ever. The only time a card stops is when you ask us to unbind it, for example because it was lost or stolen.
I am selling the business
Hand the whole account over. The new owner gets your cards, your locations, your labels and your tap history — everything except your invoices, which stay with you.
- Sign in and open Settings → Transfer this account.
- We generate a link. You send it to the new owner — we never email them.
- They open it, accept, and add their own payment card. That is what completes it.
- Until they do, nothing changes. Your cards keep working throughout.
The link expires after 30 days. If it lapses, nothing is lost — start another one. And if you would rather not keep paying while they decide, cancel; your cards carry on redirecting either way.
I bought a business and these cards came with it
The cards work, but they belong to the previous owner's account. You cannot relabel them, see their taps or change where they point until they are moved to you.
- Ask the previous owner to start a transfer, if you can reach them. That is the clean route and it moves everything.
- If you cannot reach them, email support@tapforreviews.com from the address you want the account under.
- We will ask you to connect the Google Business Profile for the listing. Only an owner or manager can, so Google does the verifying, not us.
- Read us the card IDs — the eight characters before the dash — printed on the backs of the cards you are holding.
- We move those cards to your account.
Taps and messages from before stay with the old account. You start clean on those cards. You can also just buy new cards and set them up today — nothing stops you, and it takes about two minutes.
A card was lost or stolen
Turn it off yourself, straight away, then we unbind it for good. Unbinding a lost card is in our terms, not a favour.
- Sign in, open Cards, pick the card and choose Turn this card off. It goes off at once, whether or not you subscribe: anyone who finds it sees a not-set-up screen instead of your listing.
- We are told automatically and unbind it permanently. Until we do, you can turn it back on if it turns up.
- Cannot sign in, or do not know which card it was? Email support@tapforreviews.com from the address on the account with the card ID — the eight characters before the dash — or the location it was at, and we will turn it off and unbind it for you.
Nobody can claim it: its setup code was used up when you first activated it. The card ID is never reissued to anyone else, ever. If the card turns up later, email us and we will put it back on your account.
I want a card to stop pointing at my listing
Two different things, depending on what you want.
- Pointing it somewhere else — change the location on the card in your dashboard. Needs an active subscription.
- Stopping it entirely — if it is lost or stolen, turn it off from Cards and it goes off at once; otherwise email us. Either way we unbind it. It then shows a not-set-up screen. Its setup code was used when you activated it, so it cannot be claimed again; only we can put it back on an account.
We will not switch off a card you paid for on our own initiative. If you stop subscribing it keeps redirecting exactly where it points now.
Someone else claimed a card that was mine
Rare, and fixable. Setup codes are hidden by the sleeve until the card is opened, and each one works only once, so this is hard to do by accident.
- Email support@tapforreviews.com with the card ID — the eight characters before the dash on the back of the card.
- We check the claim log — every claim is recorded with a time.
- If it was wrongly claimed, we move it to your account. Its setup code is already used, so this is done by us, not by claiming it again.
I am not the owner of the Google listing
Only an owner or manager of the listing on Google can give permission to read and reply to reviews. That is Google's rule. It is often a franchise office, an agency, or whoever set the business up years ago.
- Open the Reviews tab in your dashboard and choose I don’t own this Google listing.
- Copy the message we show you and send it to whoever does — email, text, in person, whatever suits.
- They approve it with their own Google login. They never see your dashboard, messages or billing.
Not sure who owns it? Search your business on Google and choose Own this business? — Google will tell you whether it is claimed and offer to contact whoever holds it.
Not covered here? Email support@tapforreviews.com and a person will answer, usually the same day. If you are writing about a card, the ID printed on its back is the fastest thing you can give us.
